buying a new 90 E-Tec ?

Member Posts: 10 Comments: 0 Joined: 09/22/12	I am getting a new 2012 E-Tec 90 on my 1991 17 Montauk. The dealer wants $10,500 to R&R my 90 Yamaha and install new Icon Pro tach and basic water psi, temp gauges. The tach is 3.50" the other two are 2" plus new controls, battery cables and the works. I live in north Florida my question is this, am I paying way to much if it is only a matter of 3 or 4 hundred? I would still want to do the deal with the dealer I like but don't want to pay way too much. If anyone is looking I would dig some feed back. The price includes a 13 7/8 x 17 Viper prop. Does the new E-TEC include complete install and set up with gauges and controls? Is the 90 Yamaha worn and tired or does it just need some minor updating and maintenance? You said if it is only $3-4 Hundred and that will never happen if you are getting new controls, new gauges and a new power pack. I would be very hard pressed to scrap a perfectly good Yamaha 90 that is in good condition and might need some minor repairs in lieu of a brand new motor unless I had money to burn and serious doubts about the Yamaha's longevity. Shop around and or wait to see what this years boat show specials bring. Money is tight all over and they should be willing to deal. Best of luck in whatever you decide.

I have been to several dealers to identify all costs associated with purchasing the new engine. I have been quoted approximately $13,000 by several different dealers. All have gone about the pricing the same way, they treat the boat as if it has nothing. In other words, the quote includes the engine, gauges, battery, battery switch, wiring, prop, labor, etc... All of the dealers I have contacted have been more than happy to break down the cost for me and to discuss my boat and what I actually need and don't need.

We went with the used 2003 70hp Yamaha, rigged for about $4000. It does burn oil, but not $5k worth. 1985 Newport 17 w/ 70 yamaha

Member Posts: 242 Comments: 0 Joined: 07/24/12	I'm in the process of repowering my 18" Outrage at this present time with a 130 HP E-tec and was quoted 10300.00 for motor and the all inclusive package with a 700.00 install fee I priced a 115 HP for 9400.00 with the all inclusive package. I'm getting the engine out of Portland Oregon. You judge. I will be placing my order in the morning for the 130 HP.

Member Posts: 103 Comments: 0 Joined: 05/21/06	Evinrude has a promotion going on until Dec 1 that includes free rigging package including controls, gauges, and a stainless steel prop, along with a 5 year factory warranty. Talk to your dealer. The free rigging package can be worth thousands of dollars depending on which one.

So I get there he said that he had become awear of some things that will change the price that I agreded to I was thinking a deal is a deal right. Then he said ben the price is going to be hundreds of dollars less. I don't know about you but that never hapens to me when I am spending money and allready agreed on a price. So now I am paying a boatshow price and buying from the best famley run Evenrude & yamaha dealer with the best service department! And in my home town. First - keep an eye on the Evinrude promotions. Rigging (cables and the needed 'master gauge' are regularly part of the package when the engines are being purchased. Ask for it or call Evinrude to see when / where it is available. Second... shop. I finally located a new E-tec 90 in NY for 8.300. Start early... up here, I heard that January / February were the best months to buy an engine. Mike

And thank you to all others as well, there can not be to much info on something like this.
