I'm planning to install hydraulic steering on my Montauk. I searched but couldn't find information regarding the required length for the hoses. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

It depends on how you want to route them, and how your existing rigging is set up. Most will tell you 16', but on mine I re-rigged from scratch the way I wanted to do it, keeping all cablesin one bundle on the battery side, and I needed 18' for my Baystar installation. My console is raised 6" also, adding length.

It's better to have some extral length rather than be too short. Extra length can be handled in the console fairly well.

Great. Many thanks for the help. As a side note, I wouldn't mind raising my console just to get the windshield a tad bit higher...or better yet, does anyone make a windshield that is taller than the stock windshield? Hijacking my own thread, I know!

A console raised 4" or 6" in a Montauk transforms the feel and functionality of the boat, making it seem like a much larger boat than it is. I can't really describe it, it's simply something you have to experience. Try unscrewing the console and sliding some temporary 2 x 4's under it. You'll see what I mean with respect to feel of the wheel and controls, plus additional wind protection. If you do it, the RPS should also come up 6". You can access mine from the above photo link.

I used 16' hoses and the length worked out well. Thank you again for your assistance!
