Could anyone help shed some light on what a 300 hr/3 year service should / would cost for an E-TEC 150. (one engine)

I did some www searching and found the experience all over the place from D.I.Y.'ers to $650+. The service would include impeller too I believe.

I got a pretty shocking verbal quote here in the DC area but has anyone actually had this done and at what approx. fee?

I realize the DC area can be quite a bit higher since we're all 1%'ers but I think my quote was way too high but then again...

Cheers

I can check but I believe mine was in the $350 range. Dropped the lower unit and changed the oil, change the spark plugs, lube all possible engine points and probably changed the impeller. How many hours do you have on the engine at this point? I only had about 100 hours on mine and I was told I could have waited until i had 300 hours with no issues.

Great ressource there: http://www.etecownersgroup.com/group.com/

The parts only for DIY'ers are $250 (including shipping) + $70 for the OEM service manual, that's for V-4's 115-130hp http://www.etecownersgroup.com/post/3...hp-5663793

Yours being a V-6, parts only should be in the $275 range. You could ask others members what they paid or request a quote to Barnacle Bills http://www.barnaclebillsmarinesupply....upply.com/

Hmm, that seems to be what I keep reading. So the 1K quoted still has me still a bit wobbly on my feet. Thanks all - anyone else with experience? I'll call around too. Maybe Kamie I'll start using your peeps.

What does your shop charge per hour? I believe it takes about 3-4 hours normally.

Wow! My twin 250s were not that much! I think I paid around $650 for both, but that was without impellers, as I had them done earlier. The plugs alone cost a butload. Shop around! Kamie seems spot on.

This confirms a lot of what I read on other internet searches so I'll be shopping this service around. Obviously, with a verbal quote of $1K and 3-4 expected that's.... hmmm $300-250 per hour.
Cheers ya'll.

Just another example of inflated costs whenever Washington is involved!

Let us know what it ends up costing you.

Mark,

While you are a very talented photographer, are you slightly mechanically inclined?

If you look at the Evinrude service list, there are a large number of items you can do yourself.

Changing spark plugs
Greasing motor
Replacing fuel filter
Oil change

Remember that there are many items on the service list that may not be needed. If your impeller is less than 5 years old it does not have to be replaced. Same with trim anode.

Some (not all) service departments will change out parts (plugs, impeller, anode) even if they are still serviceable.

Mark, I just checked and i paid $304 for the service. It is a good idea to have it hooked to the computer to clear any faults and update the EMM software if required. Also have any recall work done while you have it in the shop. You can always bring it down near me if you want. Do not take the engine to the folks in southerm MD even though it may be closer.

Kamie, was that parts and labor? Excellent deal if so as parts alone were more than half that for our 200 HO.

yep, parts and labor and I probably picked up a gallon of oil while I was at the shop, can't really remember. I did have it done 2 years ago so i am sure prices have gone up.

Just remember that the spark plugs have to be indexed with NO shims. In the service parts, the plugs will be the majority of the cost. Be sure to change the washers for the gearcase drain/fill screws. The exhaust pressure fitting would need to be removed cleaned if possible and reinstalled. Don't forget to change the fuel return line filter at the VST. Just to name a few things.
