If anyone is considering purchasing a motor from an outfit in Pa offering Rebuilt Motors with a one year warranty, contact me before you make a decision. I had an experience with them that you will be interested in. Don't want to publish info here to make sure the site doesn't have any liability. Email me for full details, you won't regret it.
You can tell us the story here but just leave out the name of the company.
If anyone wants to know the name of the company, then they can email or send you a PM to get more information.
Tom,
I second Joe's suggestion. The details of the transaction would be good for us all to learn from. We really appreciate your concern for any liability we may have, but I don't think posting the details, minus the establishment's name, would hurt.
OK, Here goes! I talked to them about a 2000 Evinrude 70hp 2 stroke. Sent them the money for it in Oct.....Excuse after excuse as to why it hadn't shipped. Said they were waiting on a part from OMC. I asked them to send me the serial number so I could begin the registration process. They sent me the number and come to find out it was a 1998 and not a 2000. They came up with some BS excuse and then told me that he had just gotten in a 70 hp 4 stroke that I could have for $1,000 more This was Dec. and like an idiot I sent it to him. Well, here we go again. Couldn't ship it until the holidays were over, then in Jan they were inspecting it and found that a part was missing and they had to order it from OMC (Here we go again) I called every 2 days and kept getting the story that it would ship the next day. This went on for another 2 weeks. Well, the end of Feb they finally notified me that they were shipping the motor to me via UPS freight. They shipped it, I picked it up, uncrated it and installed it on my boat. It really looked good....................outwardly.............I started inspecting it a little more carefully and I noticed a part missing here and a part missing there. I'd see a part that was tied on with a piece of wire or a tie wrap. I called and left a list of the parts that were missing and was told that they would send them to me. Here comes the biggie! The next day I added oil to the crankcase and low and behold I saw that oil was coming out of it as fast as it was going in. When I finally found where it was coming from I found that the valve cover had a big crack in it and someone had put putty on it to seal it up. I was furious and called them. He told me there was no way his shop would ship a motor out in that condition and for me to send him the part.(I will attach a photo for you) I sent it to him overnight. Called him the next day and finally got to talk to him late in the afternoon. He said, and I quote! "You had to have broken that while uncrating it, but I will take it back and refund your money but you will have to pay the freight to ship it back!" Wonder why he would give me a refund if he actually thought that I did the damage? I packed it up and sent it back..............it got to them 3 days later, I called and they acknowledged that they had it. I asked when I could expect my check and secretary said that she had to get approval from him before she could send a refund. I called the next day and she said that he was on vacation and would be back in 2 weeks. I went ballistic! I called back late in the afternoon and guess who answered the phone? You got it ...........back from vacation early I guess...........I told him what I thought of him and his outfit and we exchanged a few unpleasant words and he hung up on me. I called back and he wouldn't answer. I called the next day and secretary said that he told her to send me a check. I felt relieved that I was finally going to get my money back. Well, it took almost a week and a half for the check to get to me, but I finally got it. They had my money from Oct to March and were jerking me around the entire time. I decided that I was going to do everything in power to let anyone and everyone know about their crooked business! Anyone that would like to know the name of the comapny that is in Pa. email me and I will send it to you
Sorry to hear about your horrible experience. I suspect the outfit you did business with is the same one that has been talked about on "the hull truth". I believe there is a thread on that site detailing other problems people have had with them.....Lesson learned.
