I am in need of some prop help. I have a 1997 outrage 20 with a 2007 175 merc optimax dfi. I am currently running a mirage plus 18 and only getting about 5000 RPM at WOT. Per GPS i am running 41 MPH. I was told this motor should tach between 5300 and 5700 WOT.

I am looking at both a 16 & 17 Enertia Prop. Anybody have any suggestions or experience with this outrage and prop selection? Please Help!

Thanks
Mark

Mark:

Welcome to WhalerCentral.

Before discussing propellers, you should verify the mounting position of the motor on the transom. In many cases dealers mount outboard motors on whaler hulls too low.

The anti-cavitation plate should be at or just above the surface of the water at medium to high speed. This can be represented by having the anti-cavitation plate 1-2" above the bottom on the hull.

There is a line of 4 mounting holes in the upper set. Counting down from the top, what hole are the bolts using?

Top
0 <---if bolt here, then "all the way down"
0 <---1 hole up
0 <--- 2 holes up
0 <--- 3 holes up

I would raise it 2 holes and retest. You should pick up 2-300 rpm's without a prop change.
