Have a 1981 11' with 9.9 wheel steering. solo (190 lbs) i run 14 mph unless its running well and it can go about 18 mph. With 2 aboard I'm only good for about 12 mph not quite on a plane. What performance would I get with a 4 stroke 20 (book at 115 lbs mercury) and would it make a difference with a honda that i recall is about 10 lbs lighter? Looking to save weight I could go to a pull start and leave the battery at home but not sure if it will be too hard for everyone to start. Thanks!
I built an 11 whaler for my son (he was 14 at the time) The engine I got was a Yamaha 2 stroke 25 hp, no battery, I went for weight and power, the engine weighs around 105lbs. Very easy to start with the pull rope...
I briefly had a 25 hp 2 stroke on my 11. I also got about 24 mph with it. That was far too fast for semi-choppy (not glass) conditions by the way. I think a 20 hp 4 stroke would be perfect for an 11'. 25 hp isn't really needed and the 20 hp 4 strokes are quite a bit lighter than the 25's.
I have the BF20 Honda on my 11' Sport. It has electric start and power tilt. The boat planes with ease with 2 adults, gas, and cooler. I have an odyssey PWC battery under the side console which is more than enough to start it. Yes, the Honda BF20 is the perfect motor for the 11.
I have an 11' sport with the steering wheel console and a 2 stroke 25 up evinrude that makes that boat run great in any water condition. The boat is rated for a 20 though so I would say that is probably plenty.
