I currently have a 25 HP electric start 1984 Evenrude on the 13 tiller. Runs great.

I have the chance to change to a new 9.9 HP 4-stroke. Will I be disapointed?

I do alot of trolling, but some speed is good.

Plan to head offshore in San Diego 10-15 miles this summer.

What would you do?

Thanks,

Jeff

Don't even think about it!

if the kids are putting around the harbor a 9.9 will push it around fine and with two small kids will probably get it on the step but not get in any trouble and be legal. Wth one or two adults it will be a dog! In my mind a 25 is a tad short on power. I have a 2 stroke Ev 30 that runs like a champ but I would not be happy with much less power. A 40 (2 stroke) would be my choice if I was money bags

In addition I have a 1969 slapper and you have a "new" hull with I think a deeper v hull...maybe...if so it requires more powerr than the olderr flatter bottom sports.

Save the 9.9 for your RIB!

I would stick with what I have, and spend a little bit of money on a VHF, and Sea Tow (since it's available to you out there). You will be miles ahead in the money department.

The mid 80's to 90's Evinrude's were some of the best engines made, I would run the engine until it dies, then purchase at least a 30 like Blake has... You will not be sorry...take care

Hope you plan on filing a float plan...IMO, 10-15 miles offshore in a 13' is pushing it....

I feel that with a 9.9 you will be disappointed.
