Just an FYI, my local dealer had a larceny of tragic proportions. He lost a large quantity of crated Yamaha outboards ranging from 9.9hp- 300hp. I'm sure these are long gone, man I hate a thief.

Our Scout Seabase in Long Beach (Alimitos Bay) got hit several months ago for about 10 engines. Got all the good 2-stroke and 4 stroke but left all the beaters. just cut them off of boats with a sawzall and cable cutters...a real mess. Cut the hinges off of a 20' container and had a field day too.

the escapade really put a hit on our summer program this year and will take years to replace. If there are any servicable engines taking up space and you could use a tax donation chit...and close to So cal...I am all ears!

A$$holes are out there!

We work so hard to run our Scout programs on a shoestring budget and we were really proud of repowering four of our boats with 4 strokes a couple of years ago... Every time you take a couple of steps forward...!

Stolen outboards are never remarketed locally. It's possible they may show up on Ebay, but usually they are taken or shipped to some third world country where there is a big market for them.

On the West coast I would think Mexico and Central America would be destinations. On the East Coast, it's usually the Islands or Africa.

In 1997, I had a pair of Mercury 200's stolen off my Outrage 25, while on vacation in Savannah GA. They were never heard from again! Police said they likely went to the Islands

There was a recent “string” of trailered boats on the Eastern Shore being stolen. Thieves seem to have been targeting boats with late model Yamahas => 100 hp.
