Since we sold our Grady in the fall for college tuition I am back to running my 1960 13' which has been upside down on the trailer since 1997. The boat has seen a lot of use & basically is in need of a major overhaul. It def has a number of soft spots, the keel was repaired by us 20 yrs ago with a long piece of oak that we glassed over & the entire boat has been painted inside & out 4-5 times. So this will never be a show boat & that's ok with me.
Now to my questions:
I am going to patch all the holes, already done picking away & sanding the entire hull. After I make the repairs does anyone have any recomendation as to a coating that will add some strength to the skin? I'm looking to do a brush & roller job.
The interior has a soft spot at the floor where my dad used to rest his foot behind the console, which was poorly patched a long time ago & since cracked. I need to repair that & some other small holes to prevent anymore water itrusion.
Also, I had replaced the bow light wiring long ago & just ran it under the gunwhale & puttied it in. What is the best way to install new wiring? I assume it ran inside the hull along the gunwhale on the starboard side? How do I snake it though if that's the correct location?
I'll keep you posted on my progress.
In the meantime I'm looking for a 1970's-1980's 18-20' for some of my off shore adventures.
