Does any one have a recommended prop for an outrage 19 II with a Johnson 150 on it? Currently I'm running an OEM Aluminium 14.5 x 19. The boat runs about 43 mph WOT @ 4500 rpm.

I'm think of the Solas HR Titan 4. Any thoughts would be appreciated??

John

A good friend runs the same rig (except engine is a Yamaha 150) with a Mercury 4 blade Vensura 17" pitch, and engine up 1-1/2". The performance is excellent.

I would also consider a 17" Mercury Enertia as an even better option over the Vensura if top speed is a consideration. Almost all of the bigger Boston Whalers are leaving the factory these days with Enertia props installed.

If you don't want to pay for a premium Mercury prop, I would consider Stiletto, but from what I can tell about they way they agressively cup their props, you may want to step down to a 15" pitch from them.

If you want to stay with aluminum, I think the Mercury Black Max line are the best aluminum prop on the market. I have run them, and they are remarkably good performers for the price.

I have no experience with Solas.

Thanks for the info. I ended getting an Enertia 14 x 19. I have noticed a slight gain in top speed and fuel economy. Boat now runs 4800rpm @ 46mph. Althought I don't have numbers from my original aluminium prop, but cruise is improved to 26mph @ 3000 rpm. One con is that the stainless prop is much heavier than the original and as a result I get a big clunk when shifting into gear.

Although your top speed is excellent, you're going to damage the engine running it wide open at only 4800 RPM

It sounds to me like you should be running a 16" or 17" pitch Enertia.

What is the WOT range for the motor? If 4500-5000 you are ok. If 5500-6000, then not.

For most V-6 2-strokes it is 5500. That was my assumption.

The 1994 model 150 is 4500 to 5500 RPM.

If he is running only 4500 as he posted in his first post, then that is really not enough even though it is in the range.

Where is your engine mounted?
All the way down?

Sorry, but you haven't answered all the questions above.

I can't help you unless you give us that information.

4500 RPM at WOT is not enough. It is at the bottom of the scale and should be around 5200 to 5300 so you have the wrong prop or engine height or both.

Your tachometer and/or GPS is not reading correctly. There is no way that a 14-1/2" x 19" OMC/BRP propeller will run 43 MPH at 4500 RPM on a Johnson 150. There is also no way a 14-1/4" x 19" Mercury Enertia will run 46 MPH at 4800 RPM.

The Enertia is a good prop to try on that boat/motor combination, though I am not sure it is the best. You do not want to run a four blade Solas HR Titan or a four blade Mercury VenSura.

Stainless steel propellers weigh a lot more than aluminum propeller so there is a more shift clunk. That is not a problem; the motor is are designed to for it. You can use a shift clunk dampening hub kit if it bothers you, bit it is not required.

Yes, that motor has a 4500-5500 recommended WOT RPM range so 4800 RPM is well within that but it's better to be in the upper half of that range and ideally, close to 5500 RPM at WOT, when lightly loaded.

Yes, 43 MPH at 5100 RPM with a 19" SST/SSP/Viper I believe.
