I justed purchased a 2001 23 ft Outrage with a 225 hp Optimax motor. The prop is aluminum and beat up. What is the size of the factory installed prop??
Well, the boat probably had a 15-1/2" x 17" Mercury MIRAGEplus propeller on it originally. It would not have left the factory with an aluminum prop which is only worth having as a spare on a boat that size. The MIRAGEplus a really good prop but there may be better propeller designs that were not even in existence twelve years ago when your boat was built.
The motor was mounted at the factory in the "two holes up" position if you have hydraulic steering. If you go to a more modern propeller like the Enertia or Revolution 4, you should raise another set of bolts holes to the three holes up position (bolts going through the fourth set of bolt holes in the motor's mounting bracket).
