I just purchased a 1987 Montauk with a 90hp Johnson. For whatever reason, the previous owner removed the engines model/serial # plate from the transom bracket. I'm aware that there is a second location on the head somewher, however, I cannot find it. Can some one please direct me to the typical location on the head? A picture would be great! Previous threads indicate an additional tag is located on the top left portion of the head but I have not been able to locate anything in that area.....nor anywhere else.
Don't know about the OMC V4s, but on the twins look on the starboard side on the head for a small disc with the ID info on it. It is smaller than a quarter, and its set into the head casting. It should be easy to find as it never was painted, but maybe someone painted it. Could be a bigger hp block hiding under a 90hp hood, or possibly a stolen motor.
