I bought a 1984 13' Super Sport 13 last fall, have been doing a "casual" makeover on it, since it's in pretty good shape. It's finally ready to go in the water.
Yesterday, I discovered the "special ordered Boston Whaler cover" that came with it barely fits width-wise - it's a Cabela's cover and it looks like it was designed for a Sport without rails. I'm sure it worked OK for the previous owners, who kept the boat hung in an enclosed boathouse.
Now, however, the little Super Sport must live outdoors on a boat lift - and we get some pretty strong winds on our lake!! The cover as it fits now won't last but a few days. Furthermore, even if it DOES stay on, it will simply pool water.
So I think I have a few options:
Remove the rails (except that they make the boat look so "Whaler" - it's what I love about it)
Take the cover to my local cover-repair guy and have a strip added in the center, so the cover is wide enough to reach well over the edges of the boat. If I do that - should I have him add a few tent poles; or simply put some grommets in and let it drain into the boat?
What do other owners do - who DON'T keep their boats on trailers in enclosed buildings???
