I am considering the purchase of a merc bigfoot to put on a !3ft whaler sport. I have worries about the extra weight on the transom. 260 lbs compred to the old weight of 204 lbs
Instead, you want the 3 cylinder Merc 40HP EFi 4-stroke standard gearcase, which weighs 217#. I recently saw one of these being installed on a 13 supersport, and it was a nice setup. An old 35 Johnson came off.
I have 2 50hp Merc Bigfoots on a boat at work. It's a non planing 30' hull that weighs 13,000lbs. They are the perfect match for that boat. If you plan on doing nothing but towing skiers then it might be a good match, but otherwise go with the advise stated above. 40hp EFI regular gear case. The Bigfoots are made for heavy loads and towing.
