I might have found a decent deal on a Mercury 2-stroke 1999 115. I know that this is over the max hp rating for the boat, but was curious if anyone had a similar setup. Does anyone know the approximate weight of this motor or where to find it?

I currently run a 120hp evinrude. Boat is very fast and I needed to govern it down for the kids but wow a 140 must be a bit frightening. I think you'll be fine with the merc but do check with your insurance company.

I've known a few guys who've run 115's on their Montauks. You'd probably be okay using it. As with anything, common sense always prevails.

Have fun and let us know what you end up doing.

I have run a 115 Evinrude on my 83 17 for years with nothing but positive results. That being said I just changed to a 90 Yam 4 stk only because I just thought it was time. I sold the 115 in about 15 min on craigslist for $900.

That engine is 4 cylinder, "2 + 2" configuration, and weighs 356# dry. Add a few more #'s for oil in the on-board tank.

The boat can handle the weight and the HP. The boat should run 50 MPH and at that speed, you have to be careful with a Montauk. I run a 115 HP engine on mine, but it only weighs 300#.

I have the 115 2+2 on my 1971 Nauset. Runs great. Oil injection. no gas/oil mixing. I have had it up to 45 mph, but didn't want to push it. Cruises at 25 mph all day.
