Hey guys. Does anyone know how to get a trim system off of a johnson 48 spl? I have the kit to replace the leaking seals but there is a pin at the top of the cylinder that holds the push rod in place but I can not figure out how to remove it as it isn't a bolt per se. The inner part of the right hand side is threaded on the inside. Are these threads maybe reverse threaded and that is how you get this pin out?
I have never seen this done on your motor but I hit the web looking for you. The following is what I have found
this video on You Tube about bleeding after the seal replacement

I have the same problem on my Johsnon outboard but can't seem to get the pin that runs through the tilt rod off so I can remove the assembly...did you have any issues with this?
@1110Miami YES IT IS A PAIN IN THE ASS. Mine was frozen in place also. All attempts to drive it out or use a puller failed. I had to drill it hollow and finally use a ball joint press and some drifts to get it out. My advise is force it out with a ball joint press or drill it out and you will probably ruin it to get it out and buy or machine a new pin. Good luck.
Did what you told me and FINALLY got the pin off. Thanks so much, I was starting to go nuts!!! Hope to be back in the water soon
There is a lot of good discussion under the video. Hope this helps you.
Bake,
I had seen those threads before that you posted. Thanks. I haven't had a chance to fool with it since the weekend but they mention a "spring clip". On my motor I don't see a clip of any kind, just that pin with the threading on the one side. On the other there is like a nub but it doesn't have a nut on it and certainly no clip. I will post what I find.
