hi all , I would like to install two line chocks on th bow of my 1970 katama. would place them a few [3 or 4] inches to port and starboard of the bow light. my concern is drilling into the bow light wire. i understand the wire is on port side behind the rub rail. can someone tell me where the wire is in relation to say the front edge of the rail ?i intend to keep the chocks as far back as I can , just want to be sure idont hit the wire. advice would be much appreciated. thanks

The wire goes straight down from the light fixture does a 90 degree turn to the rub rail and then follows the rub rail around the the back to the boat where it comes out

From my understanding, the wire for the bow light actually runs within the rub-rail. As long as you are not drilling through the rub rail you should be fine.

Bow light wiring only runs in the rub rail on those boats with the newer three piece Barbour rub rail, generally used after 1971.

A 1970 Katama and all the other 13s and 16/17s with the original one piece white rub rail had three wires molded into he hull itself. There were three so one could be used as a spare.

There is no way to replace those wires without finding a new route for it. You can retrofit the newer three piece rub rail or you can route it along the exterior of the hull just under the gunwale in the "finger grip". A single piece of white waterproof plastic tape will hold the wire in place and will be remarkably well hidden, though you do have to be mindful of it.

tom Dawned on me that you meant the wire was run in the hull completly seperate of the gunwale . i guess i just had it in my mind the wire was near the rub rail . thanks for the new train of thought.
