I have herd and been told that water drains out of the 2 stroke motors. Is this for real or should I be worried about my motor sitting outside this winter? Weather person predicts a low of 24 next week.

If you lower the engine the water will drain from the lower unit.
I leave my engine down all winter and haven't had any problems.

Thanks for the input. I raised and lowered the engine a few times and left it in the down position. Wrapped the powerhead with a blanket under the cowling. Hope to have inside storage before long.

I have to wonder what kind of real damage could occur ? Unless the water is in a contained in a space where it would have no room to expand it will do no damage. If you drain most of the water by lowering the engine then what could happen if a fews drops freeze here and there ?

Jimmy is correct. As long as most of the water is out of it, you ll be fine.

Wow - now that's outboard love!
You don't really need the blanket - with the motor down, cold temps won't hurt it a bit.

I would take the blanket out. Your just giving the critters nest material and it may hold moisture.

LMAO, this is great, thanks for the reassurance. I just wasnt sure about the water draining out of the powerhead. As for loving my outboard, yes sir, I have 8000 reasons for it.
Thanks for the well recieved advice.
