What length shaft motor came with the 1971 13 foot sport model?
What is the perfect outboard for this boat based on weight, speed and overall owner satisfaction? Any opinions out there from happy 13 foot owners?
Thanks !

I'm real happy with the 15" shaft 40hp Yamaha on my classic 1966 13' BW. I can easily plane off with four adults on board.

Got a ~'85 Ev 30 2 stroke 15" on my '69-13 and love it. Sure an extra 10HP would be great but the 30 is light and can just nurse up 4+2 on the step at sea level and can drag a tube with my 14 year old son and 2+1 in the boat at +6000'...WOT. Unless you really need a 4 stroke for pristine lakes and older 2 stroke is still a great value. Most of my use is in salt.

Sal -

There is a great reference article on engine choices for your model, as well as the 15', 16/17', 18' and 22'

I would remind the membership there are a great number of articles and reference information in addition to the forums. There is also the search feature. Check out the left side links when you have time.

If you want new and can afford it, a current model E-TEC 25.

Except the 30 doesn't come in a short shaft.

I also recommend that everyone takes a look at the "Frequently Asked Questions"......

Here is the 13' hull differences.
http://www.whalercentral.com/viewpage...age_id=155

Notched transoms take the 15 inch short shaft and the straight transoms take the 20 inch long shaft...

One way to utilize the 20 inch long shaft is to fill in the notched transom. Take a look in the members personal pages for various types of units the members purchased.

Sorry, I was typing on my phone, hence the short reply. I meant to say that the 30 doesn't come in a short shaft with remote or electric start (I think) if that's important to you. Obviously I'm a fan of the 30 as I have one on my 13, and that's what I'd go for: immediate starts, sips gas and oil, and plenty of grunt.
