No, Boston Whaler never used Lee's rod holders in their RPS seat backs and they never used a 0 degree Lees rod holder anywhere.
Some owners, like Joe, have installed the Lee's 0 degree rod holder in place of the OE rod holders that came from Whaler.

Yes, there were stainless steel throughout the 1970s and 1980s into the early 1990s. They were custom made by Perko for Boston Whaler. You cannot buy them off-the-shelf and they are no longer made, haven't been in quite a while, this is why they are replaced with non-OE rod holders.
Here is a photo of the OE rod holder used in the RPS from the OE Parts Photos Section:

A few of us have changed out the original Perko and installed Lee's vertical rod holders.

I think they are much better looking and less irritating on the arm than the originals.
The only drawback, they are not original....
I struggled for a long time to find replacement white rubber tips for my originals without success. I couldn't even find the black version tips which some members were able to procure...
So, I replaced them with Lee's vertical...
Much more comfortable on the arm when resting it there and doesn't leave a red, round ring on the forearm that looks like ringworm....
