I am looking to repower my 16'-7" Whaler and I wanted to know opinions and feedback on the Yamaha F70, Suzuki DF70, E-TEC 75 or 90 and a 2004 90 HP 2 stroke. If anyone has these on a boat similiar to mine please respond. I will post pics of my boat another day, it has a different console, unsure if its original. Thanks.
Yeah, I know there is no 72' Montauk, but isn't the Cohasset just another version of the Montauk with the exception of a different console. Everything else seems identical.
I have a 70hp 2002 yamaha 2 stroke on a 1970 smirkless hull.
The lowest planing speed I can come up with is roughly 19 mph (sog per GPS). I'm told that a more powerful engine would allow me to plane at lower speed, though I'm not sure how much lower that speed would be.
W/O a means to measure full flow I'm unable to adress fuel consumption with any degree of accuracy, however, I'm somewhat satisfied with its' rate of burn.
I also would like the engine to be a bit quieter.
While having a following wind at the same speed as the boat can be a bit annoying, oil consumption is remarkably low therefore there is very little smoke and the attendant fumes.
Looking in the rear view mirror and if I had the $$ I'd have held out for a fuel injected newer 70 hp or 90hp 4 stroke.
