Member Posts: 74 Comments: 0 Joined: 10/25/11	Hi Folks, Am now caretaker for the family 1997 Montauk 17, which has a 5 inch fiberglass crack on the top edge of the transom (port side). The area looks to be a little swollen but is now protected from entering moisture. Boat has always been on lift when not in use and covered during the off season so is in pretty good shape barring spider cracks/crazing. Am looking forward to tidying her up over time but the crack is the primary issue right now. Am looking for recommendations of repair shops anywhere along the Baltimore-Annapolis-Kent Island-Easton-St. Michael's-Tilghman corridor with a preference to the Easter Shore side of that list. Your reasons for the recommendation would be greatly appreciated. Have spoken with Chesapeake WhalerTowne (Grasonville, MD) but have no knowledge of their work quality or cost, yet. Thoughts, suggestions? Thanks, George

I'm no stranger to tools and indeed handy but circumstances are causing me to consider farming this out, as much as I'd rather not. Looking forward to participating a bit more in this community but right now don't have easy access to the technology to get and post photos so it will be bit before that happens.

What I did back then was to squeeze in some Boat Life caulk and smooth it out. It provided the necessary seal from the elements and allowed me to observe any further change over time. This temporary fix is still in place and there has been no change in the crack. Thank you for the replies and information, which will come in handy when it comes time to fix this properly.
