i have been trying to find out if anyone put a leaning post in a boston whaler 17 montauk. If so did it hold up or did it pull out of the floor? What screws did you use and did?

The Leaning post was optional from the factory, so yes, there have been many Montauks with a factory Leaning post although the RPS was standard and most popular.

I always thought it would have been nice to have a leaning post in my Montauk. Personally, I always thought the seat was too low, and the RPS wasn't all that useful.
Never saw one installed though.

Here is a 1989 Montauk with a factory Boston Whaler Leaning Post as shown in my link above.
The earlier versions of the leaning post were slightly different in configuration.

Couple things to think about, what are you going to use the boat mostly for? Is the Leaning post going to be a full size, or are you going to have one made a little smaller? If you get one make sure a cooler will fit under the seat part, and its better to not to have rod holds that double as a seat rest support. They need to be separate. Also I run an older 16'7" whaler, I like having more room in the back of the boat (used mostly for fishing and diving) so I just carry a cooler to sit on, I built a custom console that can hold 8 rods, so no leaning post works for me....Take care

I really use the boat for everything, I need the pole holders thats why i was thinking about going with the leaning post. I didn't realize how hight it would be. maybe ill have it cut down.

If i put the leaning post in I would put the tank under it. I do alot of bass fishing with multiple poles, so pole saftey is in question. So if I can dig up a whaler leaning post i would just put pole straps and i think it would work for me.
