i have a 98 boston whaler conquest 21. i will purchase a 'kicker' shortly and mount same on a jackplate. any opinions about whether the 20hp pushes better than a 9.9hp high thrust. i know neither will get the boat above hull speed but, which will push and pull this type of boat better in wind, wave and current? thanks . . . .
In the PNW a lot of guys use the Yamaha hight thrust either the 8hp or the 9.9hp on boats up to 26 feet. My understanding is that Yamaha has stopped making the 8Hp. I just purchased a 98 B/W 21' Conquest and will be putting a Yamaha 8 high thrust on it which was on my previous boat.
thank you for the courtesy of your reply. before i buy i am desperate to find out if horsepower or thrust pushes the boat best. it would seem to me, thrust would be preferred. but just do not know for sure. confusing . . . . in any event, thanks . . . .
You don't see too many kickers larger than 15hp on Whalers.
I have never owned a Conquest 21 so I can't give you any real facts.
I would however look at the 15hp and compare it to what others have on their larger Whalers. http://www.whalercentral.com/articles...ticle_id=7
