My 1979 17' montauk is in the process of getting a new 90 E-Tec hung on the transom. I'm not sure what brand, size, pitch prop is currently on the boat. Can I get a recommendation from you guys? Boat will primarily be used for skiing, fishing, general runabout in brackish water. Thanks.
The Evinrude E-TEC 90 on a classic Montauk usually makes good use of the 13-1/4" x 15" Stiletto Advantage 4.25 though some guys are running the 13-1/4" x 17" Stiletto Advantage 4.25.
The most important thing to keep in mind is to be sure the dealer mounts the motor high on the transom. DO NOT allow him/her to bolt it on all the way down or even just one hole up. It should be two or three holes up.
Again and again and again, we have seed dealers/mechanics insist on mounting a new outboard all the way down in the transom like they did 30 years ago. This is wrong. The boat will not perform as well as it should. Do not allow them to do this to your new motor.
