A friend of mind just repowered his 1982 13' Sport w/ a brand new Honda 30. The shop put a 9-1/4 /12 aluminum prop on it. We took it for its initial test run last night and the boat preformed reasonably well, but seems like something is not quite right. The holeshot is good, but @ WOT it maxed out at 25 mph. I cannot give tach info because the new tach installed is not working properly.

Engine height looks spot on, so my suspicion is that the prop is not right.

I know that a SS prop would be better, but is the size/pitch right? Anyone have any experience with this setup?

Thanks.

That boat should be good for 30 MPh and if so, the 12" pitch prop should be about right.

Until the tachometer is operable, no really precise recommendations can be made. We need that data to dial it in.

Does this motor has power trim? If so, were you trimming the motor out during testing?

Thanks, Tom, I knew the guru would have an answer.

The motor does have power TNT (nice option). Trimmed all the way down the boat jumps right up onto plane. While trimming up the boat picks up speed well, but at a point begins to porpoise heavily.

Tom, what is your opinion on a SS prop on a motor this small?

Once again, thanks for chiming in!

I have a 1992 13 GLS with a Tohatsu 30 4 stroke with a 9.9x11 alum prop.

32mph with the bimini up 6 gal gas & me (180) I believe the GLS is a little heavier

Thanks, cummings. I thought he would be getting closer to your numbers.

Yes, I think it is obvious a good stainless steel propeller would help in this situation.

Also, raising the motor on the transom will help with the porpoising as well as adding more speed and better fuel economy.

Good to know, Tom. As soon as we get the tach working, I will post some numbers and pictures of the mounting.
