Well folks, here I go again. Leave in the morning to head to Fla to pick up my newest Whaler. This one, an 88 25 foot CC non cuddy, with no bottom paint, with Whaler drive, and twin 200 2001 Yammies. Pretty much my dream boat. More then enough room when my family comes down (all 6 of them) to go fishing and have room, plus the advantage of twin motors for going way offshore. I did take her for a trial ride, and easily planed out at 30 MPH on one motor, and that wasn't at full throttle. So yes, I now have 3 Whalers, but hey if your going to have a hobby and collect things, what better then a Whaler?
I'm as ready to go as I can be, I have packed everything from my floor jack and shoring, to every tool I thought I might need, to electrical and 100 mph tape, grease gun, and grease. I will spend at least two hours preparing the boat, as the previous owner did no long range towing with it, just around the corner to a boat ramp, so (with recommendations from a fellow Whaler) will jack and spin all 4 tires for wobble, and noises.
I'm also e-mailing him and requesting he have a set of bearings (new) on my arrival, as I have no idea what size they are, except they are on a 6 lug rim. I'm also bringing my 4 foot breaker bar, incase I have a stubborn lug.
So, will be offline for the next 4 to 5 days depending on the trip, which is 1266 miles each way, and will update with photo's on my return.
I will check my e-mail in the am, so if anyone has anything to throw in the mix, as far as preparations, by all means do, as I will check this one more time before I depart.
Here we go again!

Don't forget a couple of short two by fours for chocks, an extra length of chain and padlock in case you have to leave the trailer somewhere, and a small piece of 4x4 in case the jackstand doesn't crank up high enough to meet your hitch.
Extra trailer bulbs and an extra license tag might come in handy as well. Always have extra ratchet type tie downs, just in case. Sounds like fun!
You shouldn't need a jack to work on the bearings if it is a tandem axle, if you chock the trailer and disconnect the trailer from your hitch, you can use the trailer jack stand up and down to work on front and back wheels. Crank the stand down(so the bow goes down) to lift the back wheels off the pavement, crank the jack stand higher (bow goes up) to work on the front two tires.-k

Duf, you're my hero! That is my dream boat as well, and glad to see one more example coming to Texas.
I am looking at my calendar trying to figure out when I can get down SPID. Would love to see your new baby sometime!

Morning all!, well, sounds like i'm good to go, have plenty of work towels, and chopped up a 2 X 4 to make seperate shoring stuff, so covered there. Good thought on the bulbs, will see to that when i get the boat and start heading back, find a truck stop or something.
Feel like a kid Christmas morning guys!
Spuds, soon as i get some of the work out of the way that i have planned for the boat, by all means come on down. Maybe you and Cliff (CES) can plan a weekend, and we can take her off shore fishing, maybe hook up with Texas Whaler!
Joe, still an adventure out there for you! Get me an offer on Raggedy, and come and get her!
Salute guys, Cya in a few days with more Whaler Tales!

Well, made it back after a marathon trip of 5 days and 3,250 miles. Was a very uneventful trip, no problems or issues, but sure am glad to be home. I plan on having her in the water for the weekend, then pulling her back out and having some work done. Looking forward to a run down the intercostal and out into the gulf, and see what kind of speed and ride i have!

Wow, that's quite the battlewagon - and in absolutely beautiful condition! Nice find. Love to see some pics of the interior layout, once you get settled in, and also a report on performance.

Will do Tim. I took her out with the owner and it was a fairly choppy day. Took the swells quite nicely. Be interesting once i get out in the gulf.

Great looking boat! I picked mine up from FL also and back to TX last July, used it for about 3 days out of Palacios where my daughter and son-in-law teach high school and live, then broght it home to work on it. Registration here was a real adventure on it's own, check out that story on the HID example page that Joe Kriz set up, but you will have a LOT of paperwork to fill out here in TX before you are thru!
See you on the water!

Trust me, i already know. I purchased Raggedy from Fla and cake walked through the registration process. this time i took my bill of sales for boat, motors, and trailer to get it insured, and trailer registered before i left and the lady at the motor vehicle pulls out this 6 inch thick manual, and says blada blada blada, can't do it without a title for the trailer, even though i have a bill of sale etc etc etc. So, was able to insure, but not register, so luckily, the owner let my use his trailer plate to get her home. Your right though, this is going to be painful.
I'll also take some more up close pictures today and tomorrow, and post them, plus additional ones of before and after photo's.
JUst got an e mail from the bow pulpit guy, my new bow pulpit will be shipping in a week. So rest of the schedule is>>>>>>>>>>>>>> early next week will have the uglyest tee top i've ever seen, removed and replaced. Bring the boat back home, and let the guy who will be rebuilding my boat lift to accomidate this monster access so he can do the measurements and redesign the boat lift to raise the boat through the deck, and extend it by 12 feet. (22 sticks out now) and did i mention, when i dock it will have 3 inches clearance on each side. Most i can do with the bylaws here.
Once complete, will take to my fibreglass guy for the stress crack on the Whaler Drive to be repair, and some other small stuff and install the bow pulpit.
Then back to the Tee Top guy to have him bend the new SS tubing for the bow pulpit so it basically follows the outline of the boat with the bow pulpit, like the one i have now. Looks very cool, and is a great place for easy access to the anchor.
By then, my new deck should be done, and i can place my new boat in its new home, after it passes my driveway check. Buffing out and waxing the hull etc.
For the first time ever, and that's after 3 sailboats, and 4 power boats will come up with a name for the new beast............... hmmmm, beast, not a bad name for this big gal! (no Duf, Don't say it reminds you of your first wife) So, will start a separate thread later for recommendations for a name. Winner gets an autographed picture of me with the boat to use as a dart board.
So, back home from the bow pulpit railing work, back in the driveway, and go through it from bow to stern, making sure of what i have, what it does, and its good to go for 50 miles offshore!
So, pictures soon to come!
