Hi,
I just replaced the 3 gaskets on the water pump, new impeller and new upper casing. However, when I connect the hose and run the engine to test the pump, the water doesn't pump out of the tiny hole. Instead, it sprays mostly around the area of the hose adapter and around the prop. Any thoughts on what the issue is?
Thanks,
Gordon

Check the fitting at the end of the hose.
Insects etc like to get in there.
You can also disconnect the hose from this fitting and see if water comes out the hose. If not, the hose may be plugged up....
Then take the entire hose off and see if you can clear the blockage.

My fault Joe. What I meant to say is that plenty of water is coming out of the hose itself and running through the bunny ears into the pump, but it doesn't seem like the pump is circulating the water up to the engine. The "tiny hole" I was referring to is right below the engine block. The one that you usually see spitting water when the water pump is running correctly.

In fact, I think most of the water spits out around the gear case.

Did you remember to install the little key (or wedge) between the impeller and the drive shaft on reassembly?

Just put the key in and it's spitting water. Thank you. One thing I noticed though is that water still comes out from where the water pump connects to the top half of the engine. Is that just because the water pressure is too high for pump to spit it all out of the tiny hole?
Thanks again.
