I have a 1987 15'SS with a 70hp yamaha. It is docked in a canal at the house. When I looked out the window I noticed that the engine was in the "up" position then minutes before I had left it in the "down" position.
When I examined the boat I found that trim motor was operating and could only be turned off by disconnecting the battery cables.
It seems like there's a corrosion issue as that is typically the case when a system starts to act as if it "has a brain of it's own". Your relays are either "stuck" in a shorted position or your trim switch on your throttle is stuck.
Do a visual inspection first and see if there's anything that's obviously wrong before tearing into your system. Sometimes an issue can be attributed to something that's simple and easily looked past.

Thanks John and CES, sometimes things such as this are just a loose connection. I went thru every connection until I felt one "snap" into place. Problem solved....back on the water!
