I have rec'd a quote for a 2012 90 HP E-Tec along with rigging, controls, etc. that reads as follows: E90DSL $7,500 2 Shift/Throttle Cables $52 Binnacle $491 20' Control Cables $120 Tachometer $198 Aluminum Prop $125 Installed Price including labor to rig boat $8,300 plus tax I'm not sure why the total is different than the sum of the parts but was curious if the members here thought this generally seemed reasonable. I have many follow up questions for him (brand/model for binnacle, tach, brand size and pitch of prop, etc.) but would love to hear some advice regarding topics/items I make sure I cover with him prior to pulling the trigger. Great site with a wealth of information and knowledgable members. Thanks in advance.

The aluminum prop on my boat that was brand new this spring looks like poop now, although there are a lot of oyster beds to run over here in the low country.

Member Personal Page Posts: 1086 Comments: 3 Joined: 06/21/10	That sounds like a very fair quote to me as long as you can depend on the dealer to do the job right and complete as well as stand behind his work and provide a full warranty. I would want to be sure I can turn the key and go fishing as soon as the work is done. A SS Stiletto prop will be a nice addition but you will also want a spare any way so the aluminum one is in no way a deal breaker. I can't speak for Va. but here in NY and nearing the end of our very short season I suspect your dealer is trying to keep a guy working and move some inventory before winter sets in. Good luck and keep us posted. Dealers often quote full list prices on all the extras and then work off from there which could account for the price differences. I'll be calling him later today with some follow up questions. Althought the boat will be stored inside, the existing bottom paint is in terrible condition. Any idea what the going rate is? The bottom is in pretty good shape structurally.

One never knows the structural integrity of a bottom until the paint is removed. Bottom paint sure can hide a lot of "mess ups". Member Posts: 116 Comments: 0 Joined: 07/17/07	I'm in the market for an E-Tec 90 for my '82 Montauk. I figure I have all Fall & Winter to shop. I stopped by a dealer in central Maine. I was quoted $10.000 for the engine, new controls and installation. Admittedly, I didn't press, but that was the first offer. I did a bit of research... I found a site that advised January as the best time of year for the purchase,,, better than boat show prices supposedly. Certainly it appears the offer you got is far better than what I heard.

I have never spoken with him and don't know what all is included. I did stop at an EV dealer a while back and asked a few questions and was told he can't get a 90 Etec until later this month and could not quote prices on motors he does not have. He did say I could plan on spending upwards of between $9000-$10,000 depending upon the boat and other items necessary for the installation. January may well be the best time to buy but most of the dealers close up around these parts from November through March.

They also were going to toss the old engine and controls on a pallet for me as well. Only wish I had the funds to do this, but my old 100XP just keep running strong

Member Posts: 116 Comments: 0 Joined: 07/17/07	The EV dealer that quoted me $10,000 offered some additional info.... 1 - Re-powering boats represents about 10% of the new engine market... most motors go on new boats. To quote the dealer "only a boat like one of the old Whalers is worth a new motor..." 2 - EV dealers have an agreement on the lowest price they can ADVERTISE a motor. Apparently the internet and low price guarantees have brought this about. 3 - He did take out the famous 'price book' and show me the E tec 90 MSRP is about $10,000. I think he claimed something like $8,000 and change is the lowest price they can advertise 4 - He also said they'd give me $300 or $400 for my old EV 90... the lower unit and power tilt are fine. SO.... I continue to shop....
