I'm preparing to tackle a repair on the rub rail at the bow... my questions -
I - Only about 10 inches of the channel that holds the rail is missing. Can I just try to replace the missing section or must I do the entire channel aoround the boat?
2 - Is it possible to get a small section to just replace the missing piece?
I am not sure you can buy the track by the foot. it is usually sold in a package for the boat. sometimes you will see a piece pop up that people have left over after a full change. I would give sue a call at twin cities she will help you with a small piece if there is anyway she can.
I have replaced small sections of rail on my Montauk. Peel out the black plastic insert (it comes out a lot easier than it goes back in). Make nice even cuts on the section of chanel to be removed, and do the same with the new piece. The end result will be a very fine seam that you have to be looking for in order to see. I used stainless steel screws (countersunk) to fasten the new piece into place. I also used a flat head screw driver, a rubber mallet and a hair dryer to put the black insert back into place. Heating up the black plastic makes it a lot more pliable. The rubber mallet sends it home after you have inserted the upper groove and used the screw driver to align the lower groove of the bumper with the groove in the chanel.
