I found an original stern light for my '63 model 16'. Chrome plated brass. The question is which goes on top? OEM parts states the knurled fitting goes on top. Looking through Tom's catalog collection for 1972 I see the "Nautical Necessities, Accessories and What-nots from Boston Whaler" page 8 shows the knurled fitting on bottom. The 1977 "Boston Whaler Accessories" page 20 - Electrical shows the knurled fitting on top.

Did things change in '72 with the hull design?

Tom, your catalog collection cd's are fatastic.

I have always seen the knurled knob on top when mounted in the boat.

The photo on page 8 is not installed on the boat so they might have put this together wrong for the photo.

I have been looking through the catalogs for an installed picture with enough detail to see. No joy so far. There are a few, but they dont enlarge clearly.

The photo on page 20 of the 1977 is not installed either. Which one was put togrther backwards?

Top = knurled. I've seen it in pictures that way and it just makes sense. If it's on the bottom it's more difficult to reach when loosening or tightening.

Take a look at these photos. Grandfathers boat bought new in the 60's. 4th and 5th pictures before restoration show the knurled knob on bottom.

I have to agree, the top position would allow greater access. Just looking at details here.

If you look at the downloads at the right side and then look at the stern light location diagram it shows the knurled section on top

I must have an older version. My download link is on the left and I can't find "stern light location diagram". Can you paste a link to it? I did look through the part location files and found 84-86 which shows the knurled part no top, no argument there. Someone please tell me where to find the same drawings for '72 and earlery models.

Thanks for the link Joe, guess i'll leave it alone. Detail B, C & F show the light on the starboard side, detail E shows it on the port side. Pictures in the PP's show it on the port side.

Thanks for your input.

Jack,

My light in it's original location is on the starbord side, and the knurled knob is on the top. You can see it Saturday on the river
