Just bought one from the estate of a neighbor that passed away. It was purchased new and was always on a lift. Repowered with a 2005 Honda 90 4 stroke that has only 300 hours on it. I think I got a real deal $4,750.00
He allowed some teenage relatives to use the boat and they abused it a bit. Rails need to be remounted, screw holes pulled out or elongated. Bow light is missing and the wires are cut at deck level.
The wiring is totally disconnected with the exception of the engine harness. I can see in the stern bilge well where they have been cut off.
Top trim is missing from side console hatch, and the windshield is in pieces.
My questions for you pros:
Can I buy a wiring harness already made up or do I make my own.
How do I replace bow light wiring?
Where can I buy that wood trim for hatch.
I think I would like to replace the rub rails factory or aftermarket.
Many Thanks
Big Bob

Welcome Aboard WhalerCentral Bob.
Wiring Harness:
Basically there aren't any other that the engine harness.
I would suggest pulling out all the wiring except for the engine harness and start from scratch.
What wires are there? In a Montauk the only ones I can think of is the wires for the running lights.
The running light wires run from the console, down the rigging tunnel to the back of the boat to the stern light area. There should be some kind of junction box back there and the wires run out the gunnel to the rubrail. The wires from up the outside of the rubrail (under the black portion) to the bow area. The black part of the rubrail is easy to pull out on a warm day.
Wood trim for Hatch?
Not sure what you are talking about here. The Teak Bow Locker Hatch itself?
Or the stern rigging tunnel cover that is made out of Teak Plywood?
You can buy original style replacement rubrail from Twin Cities Marine or Barbour Plastics:

Bob,
That piece is part of the Teak Console Side Door.
You would have to make it yourself or have someone make that for you.

Bob,
Looks like you got a great deal! I believe you can order a rubrail kit for that hull there is probably a part number on this site or check your local marine stores. Its probably a big job to remove the old rubrail and replace with new? I've never done it.
One option, You can also replace the wood console door with Starboard (seafoam would match the gelcoat pretty close). Then you would have to do the other doors as well for uniformity....Not sure if thats what you want to do? Would eliminate maintenence but those wood doors do look nice and add a classic appearance. Maritime Plastics in Annapolis Maryland has been very helpful to me when it comes to replacing outrigger bases with starboard..Good luck.

Bob,
There could be many reasons why the steering is "tight".
You need to find out why before you start replacing anything.
If you do have to replace the entire steering system, I would go with the BayStar hydraulic system from Teleflex.

Trim Tabs.....
My opinion: Absolutely NOT on that small of a Whaler..........

A great source for retro-fit boston whaler windshields is www.updplastics.com
They have molds for various models you can see on their site.
Good luck!
