Well, I've gone and done it. I love my 1969 13, but the kids keep growing, and my wife would like a bit more comfort, so always keeping my eyes open I found a decent used 1991 16SL with a 90 HP Johnson within reasonable distance and with a very reasonable price. Now the proud owner. It needs a good interior cleaning, probably a good engine de-carbon, a new prop, and to be raised at least two holes, but the hull is almost perfect with only two or three chips just below the rub rail. I see a fair bit of maintenance in my future--like stripping off the bottom paint since I splash almost exclusively from a trailer into fresh water, and bringing back the interior gel coat, but I'm looking forward to getting to know it. I'll post some pictures later.
