i am replacing the sump pump cover on the starboard side of my outrage 20 and she is rigged for twins so i have two fuel lines that i have drilled the holes for in the replacement sump cover but i am having a hard time disconnecting the fuel lines, anyone have any advice on what to do here or has anyone done this repair and has some advice for moving forward. i was hoping that this would be a little easier than it's turning out to be.
With age, they'll fuse to fittings, I suppose thats the problem? Sometimes I've found twisting them with pliers will work them loose but often I've resorted to carefully peeling and cutting them away with a single edged razor blade. Gotta be careful not to damage the fittings especially on the tank. If space is limited, it can be a frustrating task.
I agree that as stated above, you may need to slice the fuel line carefully to remove it from the fitting. Also try pushing the line off instead of pulling it. Use a flat screw driver and push against the end of the fuel line. Another thing that works well is to use a pair of electrical crimping pliers, you know the kind that are color coded for the different size crimps, when you squeeze the crimper, there is a small hole where the crimp would go. Squeeze the crimper around the fitting and then push the fuel line off.
it's not at the tank, the lines leave the tank and head toward the sump pump and they come through teak sump cover each through and elbow fitting and then one is capped and the other has the fuel line heading to the engine. I need to take the fittings apart, put the sump cover in place and then reattach the fittings through the sump cover. the fittings have hex nuts the one underneath the sump cover came loose but the top one wouldn't.
