Got a 1989 Evinrude 70HP VRO that doesn't like to stay running after a 20+ minute
hot soak. I can run the engine 30-45 minutes or more with no troubles, high speed or idle. If it sits more than 20 minutes, it will start (without priming) and idle at the dock in neutral for minutes. If I put it in gear, it runs half minute, idles down and quits. Usually need to prime it to start it. At that point it doesn't stay running unless it is throttled up, either in gear or fast idled. It runs ok after that. Question is, what else would tech need to know to diagnose it? The VRO pump is new last month, changed it because the other one was original. The problem existed the same before and after the pump replacement.
