Is this normal - water coming out of lower cowling?

See attached pic. I'm not sure if this is normal or not when you flush with ear muffs. Water is coming out of the pisser with a strong stream and no overheating. No water in the lower gear lube either.

2007 Mercury 40 hp 4 stroke.

That is not normal. It appears your lower unit is separated from the midsection. There is a substantial gap showing in your photograph. When was the last time you pulled the lower unit?

When was the last time you replaced your impeller?? I'm wondering if something wasnt aligned properly when the lower unit was reinstalled last.

It's certainly something that you might want to look at the next time you remove your lower unit.

I have the same motor and noticed this weekend the same space and leak, also with no apparent problems.
