My 85 Montauk has a 85 Johnson 90hp. When I got it last fall the owner said the oil system had been disabled and to mix my own fuel. When I had it checked out by a mechanic I mentioned that the oil system was disconnected and he said "I noticed that".
I'm getting the boat ready for use for my first summer with it and want to clear out the console area and move the battery up there. Can I just cut the hose and electric from the oil tank and take it out - or will that cause problems with the motor running? When I look under the cover at the motor - how can I tell that the oil has been "disabled"? What do I look for?

I don't know if the following will help or not, but I disabled the oil injection system on my '95 Johnson 115 HP after the oil injection system failed. I followed the Clymer Manual (for 1995 - 2002 models) instructions for doing this. As I recall, one step was to cap the oil line and secure it. The instructions say that this seal must be air tight. There is a part available for this that I bought. I also had to disable the sensors that checked for proper oil injection operation. My instructions state the following: 2. Disconnect the oil tank electrical leads at the power head bullet connectors, two-pin Amphenol connector or two-pin Deutsch connector. Remove the oil tank, its supply line and its electrical leads. 3. Tape, sleeve or insulate the connector(s) on the power head...6. Disconnect the VRO2 pump's four-pin Amphenol connector. 7. Install protective cover (part No. 335655) over the engine harness side of the four-pin connector. The engine harness side of the connector must be sealed to prevent any of the four leads from shorting to each other or to the power head. 8. If the protective cover is not available, fill the Amphenol connector body on the engine harness side with enough OMC RTV black silicone sealant to completely cover and seal all four pins.
