Wow, just had a guy hand me a vintage pair of Boston Whaler shades. They have got to be from the 80's. They Actually have a little metal whale on the lens. The guy that gave them to me said they were really good to look through. He does not know much about newer shades. He did say the color was great. I looked inside the leg and they were made by Costa Del Mar. They are a bit outdated to wear but I am stoked about owning them. Just thought I would share.

I have never put a picture in a post as I understand Jim's concern to dead links down the road. I did however post them on my personal page for viewing. I doubt there worth much but check them out. It is interesting to note that on the inside of one leg they read "Hand made USA. I know these glasses came from a employee of the factory years ago. they have never been worn. I am not sure if they were ever for sale to the public.

Wow, just when did something from the 80's get to be VINTAGE Wink I guess I'm PreHistoric Smile

Bake you're probably right the glasses aren't worth much. Drop them in the mail to me and I'll cover the postage. LOL
Just kidding. They look cool!

What could possibly be "OUTDATED" about them?

I've been wearing the same pair of Ray Ban Aviators for over 40 years and hope they never get outdated but I wouldn't care!

Could be from the run for employees, we all got a pair for a safety incentive if memory serves, and if it is, the Whale is 14k gold... those are worth quite a bit now, doubt if but a handful are around if any...

I only described the glasses as vintage in the spirit of, they have not been in production in quite a few years. They are very flat across the front like table top flat. I do see the big lens’s have mad a comeback over the last few years. I have quite a few pair of Costa’s ,I am quite excited about owning this new pair. They appear to never have been worn.

The rest of the story is the guy that gave them to me was wearing a pair at the time.

I would have to agree that aviators would never get out of "fashion", if you may. I mean, they are just a staple in the line of glasses among others.

As for it, you are lucky to have it and I would think that not a lot would have one at this age as obviously, not much are exposed to it, just those who were able to work with the manufacturing company.

Makes me wonder what pair most whalers use. I have a pair of aviators from ray-ban.
