Trim Tilt Issue

Member Personal Page Posts: 64 Comments: 1 Joined: 05/15/09	Can anyone tell me how to manually raise my motor? I have a 1992 Johnson 50, the trim tilt is not working and I want to raise the motor. I have no idea why it stopped working but I am guessing it is time to replace it.

Member Personal Page Project Albums Posts: 902 Comments: 8 Joined: 01/30/06	If you hear the motor turning it is probably the fluid. If you hear a click at the motor but the motor does not run it could be the motor. If there is no click it is possibly a connection or a solenoid.

Member Personal Page Posts: 118 Comments: 0 Joined: 03/15/11	Sometimes when you hyper-extend a hydraulic piston it can become stuck. Just have someone help by pushing down on the motor while you are running the tilt down. probably just needs a little help then it should be fine. Use to happen on my plow from time to time. That is of course if you hear the pump working when you push the button. I think what happens is the over extended piston becomes slightly misaligned to the cylinder it is operating in. The slightest misalignment can make it difficult to slide back in. If you ever worked on car brakes it's a similar idea. When you push the caliper piston back in you must make sure you push it in straight or it will bind and ruin the caliper. That said you should probably help align the piston to the cylinder. Maybe unhook one end of the tilt from the motor to relieve the pressure. This way you can make sure it slides back in straight. Edited by Sax416 on 05/22/11 - 5:48 AM
