well, what can i say, after three years of being boatless, i finally got my whaler. On sat picked up a 94, 19 ft outrage with a 2000, 150 HP johnson and a trailer. boat had even compression at 120 on all six cylinders. got the boat for $9000 and i am happy! from what i seen its not a bad price.
I have been lurking on this site for the last three years, it is awesome!
now for a few questions, Hull needs some TLC, new cushions, and a good cleaning and waxing. my questions what is the best way to get rid of the "rust" stains around the stainless steel rails, bow eye, etc. it is my understanding that BW in the early 90's started to blend the steel 60/40 stainless to reduce costs. i have some cleaning to do. also. i was reading on the site and see where this model may have some water problems around the tanks, is this true? how can i correct problem, i didnt see any water. also, i am going to need some electronics, what is preferred for someone who plans to stay in barnaget bay and venture just outside the Barnaget inlet?
thanks again and cant wait to get the whaler in the water
I really don't have the answers to your questions but I wanted to congratulate you on a great buy. I saw that boat posted on the Bass Barn. Looks like you got him down to a great price.
I use the Garmin GPSMAP 178C - Its a combo plotter and fishfinder - I think it works great and is a nice size.
Good luck with her and welcome to this great site!
West Marine sells a rust remover product, just spray on and rinse with water. It works well...Unfortunately water can find its way around the fuel tank and over time, penetrate the foam. I periodically check the area via the access ports (circular deck hatches) for water. I'll use a small wet/dry vacuum to remove any water and I'll leave the deck port open on warm days so it can evaporate...I've never found a large amount of water and its not a big problem....Mike
I have an 84 montauk and tried the hull cleaner and any other sray I could find for rust and they didn't get the rust stain all the way out. What realy got the stain out was 1000 grit wet sand paper and rubbing compound on a high speed buffer. Good luck and congrats.
Congratulations on a great buy. We look forward to seeing some pictures.
Rust - Barkeepers Friend. I have used this with great results.
Cushions - Halls Nautical. Numerous referrals over the years including our own Joe Kriz.
Wax/Polish - Collinite. My personal favorite.
A little internet shopping will likely find some good deals on the Barkeeps Friend and the Collinite.
Using Froogle can help with all internet shopping.
