Need a little advice guys. I think I am over thinking the issue here.
My 98 115 johnson is having troubles getting up on to plane. By that I mean when I dump the gas to her she bog out and die. If I dump the gas to her and push in on the Choke she will catch and take off. To me it sounds like a a carb issue right? Well I pulled the the carbs off and sprayed them down and blew them out with a compressor. I poured a bottle of sea foam into about 2 gals of gas and went and ran her still no change. So I am looking for a little help?
Ps: I did have a carb job done at the begining of last boating season.
Thanks
Jay

If you squeeze the primer bulb while underway and that improves the performance I would suggest either a leak in the fuel lines, primer bulb or a failing fuel lift pump.
Check the gasket/o rings on the carb. Have they been replaced recently?
Then again it often takes 2 or 3 cleanings to get the small orifices clean. Have you let the seafoam sit and then run the boat.

I always clean the jets out too if you have them off.

I had a very similar problem to the one you're describing, it turned out there was a leak in the fuel line, specifically the elbow on the top of the tank was just a wee bit loose.

Agree, you should look at the fuel supply side of the equation for your answer. Also check surface between intake manifold and carbs to ensure no gaps/missing bolts which might be pulling air into your mix post carb, though this would be a bad thing (lean mix).

DING DING DING we have a winner.
Phil would be correct on the jets not being fully cleaned. I took the carbs apart last week and thought I cleaned them out pretty good but I was wrong. I took the Carbs apart again last night and soaked them in B-12 all night. You would not beleive all the black crap that came off those carbs. Any way I was looking through the high jets on one of the bowls and could see light all the way through. Well I picked up the other and noticed I could see a whole lot more light than the other. So I got some copper wire and fished it through the jets and low and behold out came a dried plastic looking glob of oil. I put both carbs back together and slapped them back on. She now purrs like a kitten being stroked.
No more lean snezzing going on at idle and she just sounds so much better now on the muffs.
Thanks guys for the quick replys and confriming what I thought was the issue. I was not able to get her on the water this morning before work but I will tomorrow and I will report back with the final report while under a load. But I really feel that having the jet clogged was the issue.
Thanks again
Jay
