I took off my propellor on my riptide to replace the shear pin & zinc anode... Well, I went one step to far an unfastened the two bolts holding the housing to the shaft. Anyone know how to get that back attached correctly? I been struggling with it for two days an I am unsure if the bearing is suppose to go behind the two levers in addition to not being able to get the bolts in the holes. I say the bolts in the holes because I just tried to screw it back in an not put the bearing back behind the two lil lever arms that go in an out.
I seem to have tough questions for you salty dog veterans. I seem to be answering my own questions. Perhaps I met my question an answer quoto
At any rate, here is answer in an effort to help someone. Paid a Minn Kota guy to do it, he let me watch. First off, you got to replace every seal an gasket if you do what I did. I guess this could be controversial but the guy said its best. He also used quicksilver sealant for everything. Even the bolts.
What I was doing wrong is i was trying to reassmble sideways. Prop the motor up straight up an down where prop if it was on would be pointing to the cieling. then place the shaft inside an it locks in somewhat, place the housing on, make sure the nickel size "bearing" (unsure what it is) goes "behind" the brushes (levers that move). Now put your long bolts in.
Key to this is to:
1. use a new gasket set
2. seal everything with quicksilver
3. make sure motor housing is straight up an down
4. bearing goes behind brushes
