I came across a nice deal on a 2001 Nissan 40 today for my 1982 13' Sport. I took the '81 Johnson 35 off tonight and I notice that the Johnson had the 2 screw connectors (I'm I using the right terminology?) and 2 bolts through the bracket and a small aluminum plate that "folds" over the transom. Everything mounts to/through this plate. It's only about 6 inches tall. The Nissan has tilt and trim so it has a larger transom bracket with the 2 screw-0ns at the top, and it looks like it had 2 bolts from the impressions about 3 inches down and then 2 more bolt impressions/marks on the bracket about 13 inches down. Do I need to drill 2 more holes in the transom for the lower bolts? Should 2 screws and 4 bolts hold this type of motor on? Do I need another plate? I hope I'm making sense here- hard to explain! Thanks, Lee

I don't understand your terminology but four bolts through the transom is suffice.

Sorry- I did a search and I'm trying to say "clamp screws". The '81 Johnson has 2 clamp screws that secure it at the top of the transom, and 2 bolts that secure it through the transom about 3 inches down. Would that work on the Nissan which utilizes the top clamp screws, and the 2 through bolts 3 inches down, and looks like it had 2 bolts about 12 inches down as well? Thanks!

Thanks Joe- I'm studying this now. Trying to figure where the clamp screws factor in. L

I believe you'll need to use 4 bolts with the tilt and trim. I just had a 2011 Merc with T&T put on my 13', and they used four mounting bolts. The clamps are almost superfluous.
