So I am restoring a whaler commercial 18 utility boat from the navy. It's heavy at just under 2k pounds. I have a great deal on a four stroke yamaha 200hp. Will this be two heAvy of an engine? It's a really good deal but safety is important to me I run in very nasty weather on the west coast of Canada every day and don't want the handling to be effected.

Any idea where the hull sits (scum line on bottom paint)

There are several models of the F200. What year and model will help determine the motor weight.

One way to know is to launch the boat with the current motor and temporarily add weight in the stern to get to the future motor's weight. This will let you see and feel how the hull takes the load.

the navy had some 18' boats called rigid raiders that had the console more toward the stern and powered them with twin 70 omc engines. I would think twin 70's would weigh about the same as the 200 .

Thanks I have never seen the hull in the water or with an engine I didn't even get the gass tank with it lol

Hi, I have an E-TEC 150 on my outrage 19 and it's great on power. 25" shaft weighs about 425 lbs. if memory serves.

Does this 18' "utility" whaler have a bunch of hardware on the deck to tie things down? You might have a rigid raider which was made for beach landings. They would have about five rollers that looked boat fenders secured to the deck. Then when they beached the boat the six men would use the rollers to move the boat up the beach to conceal it. The console on the boat is much futher back toward the stern than on a regular boat. There was a boat like this for sale on CL in california recently with a single engine with a jet drive lower unit.

What year is the boat? There was never an 18 Utility, there was a 17 Utility, that was based on the Sport hull, and the specs for the commercial version are as follows
LOA 16' 7
hull weight 1000#
Max HP 100HP

As you can see we need better specs or pictures on your boat.

What we are all assuming you have is an 18/19 Guardian built on the Outrage hull. The specs for that version are as follows
LOA 18' 2"
Hull Weight 1755#
Max HP 150 HP

The Yamaha Four stroke your looking at tops in at 593# which is a lot of weight on that transom, beefy or not.

It's a 1986 18 utility Boston whaler commercial division or aT least that is whAt the brass plate says that came with it. The specs are the same as the guardian 18/19. It doesn't have any rollers and has tons of holes in the floor. I not sure what's up with it. I guess maybe that 200 will be too big. My boss will give me a etec 200 smaller block but it's pretty beat. We run our boats hard. It's been quite hard for me to find a good engine since my limit is about 4-5k the exec would be perfect if it didn't have 2k+ hours and doesn't get as good fuel consumption now. I want the Suzuki 175 we have them on one boat and they are bad! But expensive.

I would go with the etec 200 because of the weight, that is 433# and would be perfect on the guardian. I run a 175HP on my 18 Outrage and I love it.
Where are the holes in the floor, only in the tank cover or along the sides? If they are only in the tank cover your safe, otherwise get those plugged as they lead straight into the foam.

Yeah just in the tank cover. The guy before me raised the splashguard to high and covered the scuppers so I have a a lot to do before I can even put on a engine. I only payed 600 though...
