22 Revenge 1985 Fuel Tank

Minus any obvious indications the tank has problems - whether or not it should be replaced will likely require an inspection of the tank. Factors such as salt or fresh water, condition of deck cover, how/where boat was stored, and more all play into the equation. Mike

Member Posts: 9 Comments: 0 Joined: 11/10/05	The concern comes from seeing standing water above the tank during the season the cuddy tends to cause the boat to sit slightly bow down at dock. 2 seasons ago I pulled the bait well cover and drilled a drain hole from the port under deck gutter into the bait well and this has allowed the water to drain off and prevent the ponding. We also have switched in Massachusetts to ethanol and at a minimum I will need to drain and clean the tank. Perhaps a pressure test and if its good leave it. Tim

Member Project Albums Posts: 1282 Comments: 13 Joined: 12/27/05	For what its worth - here is a pic of a hole in my 1995 Boston Whaler Rage Tank - The way the tank sits just about on the floor allows bilge water to get to it. If the tank is aluminum and not epoxy coated chances are it will leak sometime down the road. There is a drain on the starboard side into the starboard bilge, but mine was kind of funcky, like someone had just drilled it and called it good. My hoses were shot. The fill hose was leaking. I would recommend pulling up the deck and taking a look. Change the hoses while you are there. My tank was still sound. It is a poor tank design for allowing water out. I pop off my two deck plates and let evaporation do it's thing when I remember. John

Member Posts: 9 Comments: 0 Joined: 11/10/05	The biggest flaw I could see is that the Port Tunnel has no where to drain to except the Tank compartment. The drain hole I added into the bait well now gives it a low point drain. I over cored from the bait well side and epoxied so the foam is not exposed. It is working well. If I pull the deck I'll probably add a small damn to the 2 channels that go to the tank well and allow only overflow from the Port to be able to get into the tank area. Thanks for the info. I believe the tank is epoxy coated.
