I'm looking at an old Outrage 18 which still has the original Evinrude 150, 1986.
I'm thinking that if this engine is running now (it apparently has less than 500 hrs on it) it will probably run for a long time provided it is maintained properly. The boat was used in fresh water most of its life.
What can I expect for mpg at cruising speeds?
Does this engine have any inherant issues?
What parts should I replace immediately (preventative maintenance) to try to avoid break-downs on the water.
Do most of you retain the VRO, or or disconnect it?
I have a 1985 with about 600 hours and still going strong.
I always keep my VRO connected and would never think about disconnecting it.

Joe, Do you use ethanol added gas where you are? I've wondered if it would affect the original rubber fuel lines inside the cowling and VRO enough on these engines to warrant replacement for someone like Mark who's looking to cover the bases on a used engine, or is it not an issue with anything original?
Good point on fuel lines.
I would also suggest replacing all external fuel lines to my list above along with the fuel bulb.
Also, check all internal fuel lines for cracks or leaks although I haven't had a problem.
Thanks Joe. It seems the internal lines and VRO hold up much better to ethanol than the external ones do. Good point on checking for cracking, a visual inspection for drips with the cover off and engine running is also a good idea.
