Thinking about repowering my supersport, would like a 4 stroke mabey a Yammie 50? Currently has the OEM evinrude 48hp.
If you own one and went through the process, what do you recommend? The weight of the Evinrude e-tech 60 would be better? Just not sold on them yet.
thanks

The weight of the Yamaha 50 and the E-TEC 60 are about the same--240 lbs. I think the Yamaha 60 uses the same block as the 50--they weigh the same. I love my E-TEC 30. What about them hasn't "sold" you?

Why would the weight of the eTec 60 be better? Both the F50 and F60 are lighter - do you feel the need for additional ballast in the stern?
I just put an F70 on my 15, but only got a chance to try it out a couple of times, and I'm still working on the right prop. Unfortunately the weather has turned bad, so I think I'm done for the year. With a 50, you'd expect to be able to get about 32 MPH.

I have a 15 SSL with a Johnson 70 that I absolutely love, but know that I will some day be facing the same question. I friend of mine has the E-TEC 60 on his 15 Super Sport and it performs well. He has been running it for 2 years with no problems.
When it comes time for me to re-power, I will be going with the E-TEC 60, unless they come out with a 70hp.

The Yamaha 60hp 4 stroke weighs in at 237 pounds.
The E-Tec 60 hp weighs in at 240 pounds.
The Yamaha 70hp 4 stroke weighs in at 260 pounds.
This is why we have the "Current Engine Choices/Weights" in our article section here. So people can look the choices and weights up readily and easily.

Joe,
You need to update your records the Suzuki 40 hp and 50 hp still weigh 243 lbs but Suzuki changed to a new 60 hp motor that only weighs 229 lbs now.
By the way thanks for a great website!
In2deep - your old motor weighed about 186 lbs so you can use that as a comparison.

I have the E-Tec 60 on my 15 and it is without a doubt the best motor that I have ever owned. It is quiet, uses almost no oil, sips gas, fast out of the hole and pushes mine as fast I have have any desire to go. Fantastic warranty also.

In general 60hp on classic 15' hull with proper engine height and Stainless prop should do 40mph. If you have a Jackplate it will be a little faster.
