Hello All,
I am restoring a 1979 whaler that has a Yamaha 50. The motor only has about 100 hours and is in perfect condition so I am not going to re-power. With this in mind can you tell me what kind of performance I can expect from this combination? I realize it won't be a speed demon, but would like an idea. Will it plane ok? Can I expect 20-25 MPH?
Thanks in advance for your response.
Wally

I had a 1984 Yamaha 40 hp 2-stroke on a 1973 16 Hull. When the interior was a Currituck design I had a WOT speed of 28 mph. After converting to a Montauk interior I had a WOT speed of 26 mph. With 10 more HP I assume you could reach 30 mph depending on your interior layout and load.

My center console 16' has a 50 tohatsu and an 8 tohatsu kicker motor. It easily goes 26 knots ( 29 mph ). You will like the way your boat handles with a light motor on the back.
