I have a 1990 excellent condition 19' outrage with the teak in great shape. original motor still on boat-1990 150 Yamaha two stroke. Lower gear housing is bad probably from not changing water pump. Had for ten years not a lot of hours. Maybe 20 a summer for ten years. Boat hours unknown prior but well taken care of. Cylinder compression is 110,115,110,105,110,110. All cylinders show some scuffing under bore scope number 4 more than others. I am in a quandry about putting money in lower gear housing and how to go about it. Rebuild, new , remanufactured? Pricing to do job is all over place. I love boat would like to keep but need to same money for repower. Comments appreciated.

I got mine rebuilt for about 800 dollars. They used new gears, but reused the dog.

Call around your area for a used lower unit. Lots of times when a powerhead is bad, a mechanic will save the l/u for times just like this. You may be able to find one and at a very good price...

If you buy a used lower unit, try to get a history on it. Also, be sure to have it pressure tested for leaks.
